Can I remove my ActionTec router? When plugging into netgear, or directly into PC, Verizon does -NOT- assign an IP.

Category:IP and Port Information

Yes you can, as long as you are connected to the ONT via CAT5 and not coax. However, the Verizon DHCP server has a habit of remembering the MAC address of the last connected device, and won't recognize your new hardware. You can unplug your router and wait for the lease to expire, but that might take days.Try calling in and tell them what you want to do. If they sound confused, tell them you need to break the DHCP lease.
